5 Great Examples of Businesses Using Social Media

Here are Business Owners that have increased sales significantly and created demand in specific verticals where it previously had little traction by integrating Social Media into their Sales and Marketing Strategy.  When J.R. Cohen, Operations Manager for CoffeeGroundz Cafe in Houston, Texas first heard about Twitter from one of his customers, he was puzzled but intrigued. Today, he credits Twitter with almost doubling his patrons and with opening his eyes to a whole new way to build Community.   Justin Levy Owner of Caminito Argentinean Steakhouse explains“My goal was that when someone would do searches for steakhouses in our general area, we would appear multiple times on the front page… As far as our ROI on social media efforts, of course it’s always hard to determine that. But, what I do know is that since we turned our focus to social media, attracting inbound links, more internet marketing/less print advertising, etc., we have seen an 30 percent increase in sales (year to date) in a time where a lot of restaurants are down 10-20 percent… The blog and social media outposts help us reach and interact with our community as well as show our expertise in our space. I have done some research and can’t find anyone in our area (or in general) that’s doing what we’re doing as a restaurant.” In Gary Vaynerchuk’s Business book The Thank You Economy he offers praise for Avaya the B-to-B company that showed that you can use social media with the same success as a cool lifestyle or retail company. Avaya originally had the idea to use Twitter to head off complaints and answer technical questions. But, by also paying attention to tweets that mentioned the brand name for sales opportunities they were able to reach out to a prospect and made a quarter-million-dollar sale to the tweeter, who later tweeted, “…we have selected AVAYA as our new phone system.” The next two examples came from Mashable: Geoff  Tucker is an Equine Dentist in Florida that uses Facebook to build business relationships. “People do business with people who they’re friends with. Period,” he says. “And Facebook is a great way to get to know people. It allows people to see that I’m a person.” As he builds these relationships using social media, Geoff is also expanding his company’s reach.  So what’s this done for his business? Geoff says that over the last year, Facebook alone has generated about 100 leads and 10-to-15 customers. SteelMaster, a manufacturer of prefabricated steel buildings, were at first hesitant engage in Social Media Marketing.  After a period of resistance they discovered two important applications for their business. First, they found that Facebook is an excellent way to post pictures of customers’ steel buildings. Not only do the pictures engage existing customers — they also demonstrated to prospective customers the range of uses for SteelMaster buildings. “Photography for us is the hook,” says Michelle Wickum, director of marketing for the Norfolk, VA company. Perhaps more importantly, they found that social networks like Twitter and Facebook gives it exposure to and created demand in specific verticals where it previously had little traction. Chicken farmers and woodworkers don’t typically think to use steel buildings, but when friends and colleagues share pictures of their SteelMaster buildings on Twitter and Facebook, the farmers and woodworkers become interested. Let My Nerium Journey Begin!

Let My Nerium Journey Begin!

Just got back from the Nerium Spring Bash! What an encouraging and fun weekend in Nashville, Tennessee at the Opryland Resort. Why did I drop everything and go to Nashville? Well, as a single Mom pushing 50, I was not very happy with the fine lines, extra wrinkles, redness, and other signs of aging on my face and neck. So, like many other busy Mom’s and professionals, I was seeking a simple to use product that would give me REAL RESULTS. I had been dreading the discovery of my next new wrinkle and my inevitable trip down the escalator at Macy’s to face a sea of beautiful and intimidating cosmetic professionals. That is why I was open to a product that my friend was sharing. Can you relate to my story? Well, I will never make that trip again! I am on a new journey and that is the story that I want to share with you today. My good friend Kathy Myers, shared NeriumAD with me. It is a blend of some of the most effective ingredients in the skincare industry, already known to show age defying benefits. Added to that blend is the revolutionary NAE-8 extract, which has been clinically proven incredibly effective in reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, discoloration, texture and helping the skin look as silky and smooth as possible. Do you want to look your best? I do!! As an busy Mom and business owner the REAL Business Opportunity offered by Nerium also appealed to me. My clients are all great, but I am caught in a trap of trading hours for dollars. Trying to please everyone and getting very tired in the process. Can you relate? For the last few years, it has been up to me to keep my business up and running. A few month ago my Father had a heart attack and then a stroke. I went back and forth to Chicago over the weeks to follow and was there when my Dad died. This was the most painful experience of my life and I am still recovery from losing him earlier this year. He was a wonderful person and we had a very close relationship. My life will be forever changed. Not having my Dad as an active part of my life is challenging, yet I am blessed with the memories and his words of love and inspiration. In my last blog I shared, “There are many things in life that we have no control over, yet we do have a powerful capacity to change ourselves and to make healthy choices every day that will make us happy, successful and that are in harmony with our long-term goals.” I am a Mother of a wonderful son with high-functioning autism or Asperger’s syndrome, the condition presents daily challenges. I want to be able to spend quality time with my son and it is part of my “Why”. The leadership team at Nerium International are devoted to supporting their sales representatives (called Brand Partners… like me ), providing us with resources to help our businesses grow. That’s because Nerium Brand Partners are the heart of the company, and their success is the success of Nerium, as the company continues to improve people’s lives through breakthrough products rooted in REAL SCIENCE. My friend, Kathy Myers that invited me to the Nerium Spring Bash, has been my friend for a long time and I saw her enjoy real success in another “Network Marketing” company years ago. She had enjoyed success and had the freedom to pursuit her love of helping people by going back to school to become a nurse. Being the overachiever that she is, she got her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (B.S.N.) from UCF in record time. After being back to trading hours for dollars, she began to miss the money and free time she had when she was in the “relationship marketing” industry (new way to say “Network Marketing”) . Well, as a busy nurse that was seeing the signs of stress on her face. Her Sister Sharon gave her a bottle of NeriumAD and she not...

Embracing the 3 C’s of Life is Good

Embracing the 3 C’s of Life is Good

Embracing the 3 C’s of Life is good for us, but not easy. But, who said things would be easy. Change is inevitable whether we like it or not. Crisis is a part of life in an imperfect world. Challenges are every day opportunities to be a better person. The 3 C’s will test our character. They make us rethink priorities, our life’s purpose and explore new possibilities. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross introduced the 5 stages of grief in her book, On Death and Dying (1969). They are: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Sooner or later we all find ourselves processing the Changes, Crisis Situations, and new Challenges that we face. Many get stuck in the first stage and deny that the 3 C’s are part of their life. They may not be a happiest part of living as a human on planet earth, but the sooner that we can move on to acceptance the better off we will be as Friends, Parents, Professionals and fellow citizens. The importance of embracing the 3 C’s of Life has special meaning for me. Let me explain. First came the Crisis: My Father had a heart attack and stroke in November that caused irreversible brain damage. Traveled back and forth from Orlando to Chicago during the weeks that followed. Then my Dad died on January 16th, 2013. He was a wonderful person and we had a very close relationship. My life will be forever changed, without having my Dad as an active part of my life will be challenging, yet I am blessed with the memories and his words of love and inspiration. There are many things in life that we have no control over, yet we do have a powerful capacity to change ourselves and to make healthy choices every day that will make us happy, successful and that are in harmony with our long-term goals. Remember, embracing the 3 C’s of Life is good! With that thought in mind, I wish you much joy and...

My 3 Words For 2012

Posted by on Jan 1, 2012 in Goals, Pamela Joan Myers, Success | 0 comments

My 3 Words for 2012 focus on the way I will achieve my personal and professional goals for a successful year: Methodical, Beautiful and progressive. I hope that it will inspire and challenge you create your 3 Words and share them with me as a part of your comments. This is the dawn of 2012, emotions can run high as we look at our new calendars, revise our business plans and contemplate how the new year will turn out for us. Chris Brogan has advocated an abandonment of the traditional News Years Resolution for a more long-lasting focus for not just accomplishing goals, but for being the person that we want to be today and everyday to follow in the new year. “Resolutions are often too vague, or too directed towards one goal. It might be “quit smoking” or “lose 20 pounds” or “get hired.” These are all fine aspirations, but I challenge you to dig deeper, to find three words that could be used as lighthouses to guide you through stormy seas, that can be used as flags on the battlefield of your challenges, words that will bolster you and give you a direction that goes beyond the goals you might attach as a result of these words.” Chris Brogan Chris started the “3 Words” idea back in 2006. This will be my first year with a “3 Word” focus. Oh, by the way “Focus” was the number one word that people put on their list. My three words for 2012 are: Methodical, Beautiful and progressive. Methodical – This year I will work everyday to be organized and structured in all aspects of my life. To me a methodical approach is based less on emotions and more on consistently being well-regulated, having tasks preassigned and processes in place that keep mind and work/life spaces tidy and uncluttered. First, I will need to painstakingly go through files, papers, projects, books and contacts to set-up a neat, systematic and efficient system and processes for my professional and personal life. This will include a careful, deliberate and disciplined approach to sorting through clothes, shoes, purses and other miscellaneous items in my home, office and car. My goal is to file away, give away or throw away all items that are out-of-date, uncomfortable and that have not been used in the last decade. In addition to creating systems and processes for the “Stuff” in my life, I will work at being more precise in my communication.   Beautiful - I love the Walter Hagen quote “You’re only here for a short visit. Don’t hurry, don’t worry. And be sure to smell the flowers along the way.” Peace and joy are a result of taking time to appreciate the beauty that is all around us and in the people that we have in our lives. There is beauty in being kind and thoughtful. I will surround myself with integrity based individuals that are kind-hearted and value beauty. It is worth the effort to be as beautiful of of person that I can be both inside and outside. To be the person that lets my light shine and encourage others by sharing things and words that are full of beauty in 2012. Progressive – Benjamin Franklin said “Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.” I will have progressive motion in my life course by moving forward in my thinking; proceeding onward to growing my business; advancing the interests of my clients and increasing in my knowledge. All that we can do with past is learn from it — so that we make less mistakes and have a greater opportunity of positive experiences as we move on to brighter tomorrows. To make progress toward my spiritual goals and reading in the scriptures daily will result in cultivating “love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness and self-control.” Bible book of Galatians 5:22 With these qualities I will be a Methodical, Beautiful and progressive person. “May all your days be full of beauty and may you find joy in your life!” - Pamela J Myers    ...
